COVID-19 STAY AT HOME ORDERS TURN INTO STAYCATION

I’ve always looked at the bright side of most situations but I have to say, we sure have been dealt with a real doozy for the 2020 Outdoor Living Season. But you know me, I had to look a little deeper.

Yes, it’s been ROUGH. I am in New York— the epicenter of the virus, my middle daughter survived COVID in the early days, oldest is immune-compromised, and my youngest is out everyday as an essential worker.

It is stressful to say the least. We all have to deal with the tough details that come along with the COVID-19 pandemic. The entire country has been forced to stay home in an attempt to flatten the hard to beat curve. At first, I thought my business would be decimated— no one can vacation. I thought I was screwed!

But what I have found is that the American family is redefining the staycation… and now it includes the whole family.

Some have barricaded themselves in, others have welcomed cousins, aunts, uncles, and maybe even some of your daughter’s college friends… Most, are working from home. And guess where they decompress? Their backyard.

Backyards are the new Bali.

They are a place to relax and regain a sense of serenity. They’ve become the oasis in the COVID-19 chaos.

The larger the homes, the more lavish and opulent the outdoor living layout becomes.

We in the outdoor luxury space are seeing people of means creating mini (and hey sometimes not so mini) resorts in their backyards, around their pools… on their patios… around their veranda… under their pergolas… on their terraces… and decks.

We’re seeing a boom in outdoor seating, dining, lounging, daybeds, umbrellas orders— we’re essentially seeing a boom in outdoor living itself.

I am looking forward to seeing the outdoor living industry continue to grow across the US. It will only get stronger as time progresses. And I know I will provide my customers with the tools they need to create tranquillity in homes across America.

Here’s to the new staycation.
