Want to know how to make a space stand out in the social media world? CUSTOMIZE IT!

In a social media world, everyone— from hospitality businesses to homeowners— want to stand out. But sometimes it’s hard to know where to start or how to make sure a project pops.

I have to say, the best way to shine— is going custom with your clients. To help guide you through the process, I put together 4 steps for custom design:

1. Start with a plan of action.

Pick the types of frames and fabrics that stand out the most. The client will likely have a vision. Work on seating, dining bar, counter, and lounging. There is no bounds to a custom project. Make sure all areas are perfectly measured out, so your custom pieces fit the areas you’ve planned out. When going custom, there’s very little room for error in spacing.

2. Hone in on the style.

Absolutely pick out the styles that would suit you and your clients best, such as haute lifestyle, European traditional, luxurious transitional, or mid-century Northern Euro modern, or ultra modern. The fun thing about a custom project is that you can mix and match styles. If you like the fabric of one sample and the legs of another— if it works, put it together!

3. Make sure materials are comfortable and high quality.

Make sure your table tops are made of materials that are easy to clean and care for, such as quartz or HPL. It’s very important to have frames that are well reinforced for many years of enjoyment. You’ll want to select material that works in commercial application. And pair it with fabrics that have luster, longevity and high rub tests with UV protection.

4. Share your lead time.

Keep lead time in mind. When purchasing custom, lead time can vary and might be longer than a traditional purchase. Right now lead times for lots of furniture is a bit longer so this is a great excuse for your clients to have exactly what they want. Make sure to check with your manufacturers sales representative to ensure your projects fall in line with all soft and grand opening criteria. They’ll know when there are delays with shipping or what can be ready quickly.
