What being at the COVID-19 pandemic midpoint means for the outdoor living industry

Like many professions, the outdoor living industry has been working under a new business model for almost two years through the COVID pandemic. Unfortunately, according to Scientists and experts, we are at the halfway point— as the latest data targets 2024 for the end of the pandemic.

In order to continue and maintain the service and expectations to promote positive growth within the industry, I put together three recommendations for outdoor living professionals:

1. Work with vendors that are organized.

Our clients need their orders secured ASAP. The goods need to be ordered fast, so we have enough cushion for the arrivals that meet our clients’ deadlines and seasonal expectations. It is extremely helpful, when a vendor is able to have lead times no longer than 12 weeks, so commercial and high end residential projects are met within their deadlines. It is very satisfying for our clients, when the goods arrive in a timely fashion!

2. Share costs ASAP and keep open communication.

With freight, raw goods and service costs rising, prices have gone up - and continue to rise up across the board. It is imperative to have that information as soon as possible and shared with clients. This is also a a perfect opportunity and reach out to the lagging clients, and re-introduce ourselves that have not purchased for a while. Let them know about pricing and lead times.

3. Be prepared for some repeat issues, we’re not in the clear just yet.

Since we’ve had some experience from the past two years under the dreaded pandemic, we are aware that COVID will continue to harm restaurants and the hospitality industry. It will mean that they will likely continue to remain outside. Commercial and luxury residential will need to explore more space and outdoor vignettes. We must be ready to once again meet these challenges and obligations, it is important and our duty to be prepared. Let’s get those outdoor selections ready to serve our customers and those affected by the pandemic.
